Today the video of a russian colliding with two himalayan griffon vulture was frontpage news not only in the paragliding scene.
First of all, vultures turn away if U announce your presence by talking loud, scream or sing.
Second: U are flying in their domaine and they look for food on the ground. Not for paraglidingpilots…
Third: the only thing I’ve been close to collide with here is a indian soldier flying…

Two days of guiding for Himalayan skysafaris
Yesterday i did my first guiding here in Bir!
My client, Keith is a low airtimepilot(30hours in total)who wants to learn thermaling and xc. Our first session was to fly from billing to 360. 15 k’s and toplanding at 2300meters. We got there and it felt realy fine to get Keith in on a perfect toplanding. A lovely flight with some low saves…
Then we had a great dinner at 360. At 21.30 I was alone at the fireplace soo I stayed there in my sleepingbag. All the others were in their tents. I was watching the stars in the sky and then slept realy well:-)
Today it was low base early on. We took off and we got back to Bir landing before the clouds came lower…
Slacking days :-)
Well it’s been abit stable the last two days soo I’ve been off the flying…
Yesterday me and John had lunch. That was all we managed before 14.00. Then I walked to Bir to get a shave, unsuccesful though. The day after Diwali is the day when no metal tools are to be used
. Smart thing since Diwali is big party here…
In the evening the other pilots came back after toplanding at the ”golfcourse”. They all had a good day:-)
Food at Colonels was as usuall realy good.
Today I had planed to go up. But it’s superstable soo I wait for an afternoonflight insted.
Gonna try a new gopro instalment…
Also I haved moved from my room to a tent, very nice and roomy. And I have a hammock outside;-)
Life is good an soon Jonna joins me in this paradise!
Happy Fred
Big flying on Diwali :-)
Another fantastic day! Flew over the back and caught up with Antoine and his two lovely Norwegians! Climbed out from the cats tail rather easy and glided on in the big mountains. Got some nice pics…
After a long a sweet trip back there we went back on the sunny side and i went to takeoff and toplanded. Then i helped the norwegians to topland aswell. Antoine fetched Richard and we all had a chai together. Then a little wagga and a sunset flight down. Life is good:-)
In the evening I had the privelige to have dinner at Kumlas(the happy lady that takes care of Jims place) and it was an experience for shure. Very very good food and ambience in Kumlas home. Awesome. Thank U:-)
Mandi :-)
Today i joined Debu guiding the two Norwegians to 360 for a toplanding. Conditions were good:-), at 360 I asked Debu if we shouldent continue to Mandi? Stian and Erenne wanted so on we went. I took the lead and Debu helped them up when needed. After a while Eddie and Richard joined and John was guiding Gavin in a lower way;-). However we easily made it to Mandi. Smiles was on bigtime. We packad up, got photographed with local kids and got a good taxi back to Bir. With a late lunch on a great Dhaba…
